Students in Skopje protest on May 18 for the Albanian language, Mickoski: We are

Albanian students in Skopje are not backing down from their demands for protection and the possibility of taking state exams in Albanian. After their announcement of a second protest on May 18, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski seems to have taken a step back, stating that the government is working to find a solution. The Prime Minister asked for patience from the students as the government will address the Venice Commission.

"This is an issue that we are working on as a government. I believe that we will soon come up with a proposed solution, which will be in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission and international standards. Therefore, I call on all participants in this process to be patient," he said.

According to Prime Minister Mickoski, the protests are being instigated by political forces that aim to create tension and division.
A month ago, Albanian students protested in front of the Ministry of Justice and the Government in Skopje. With chants of “I speak Albanian,” the students demanded that the bar exam and other state exams be taken in Albanian – a right that, according to them, is also guaranteed by the Constitution.
