I, Ekrem Imamoglu's wife, will not give up! Time for Turks to rise up and overthrow Erdogan

Dilek Imamoglu, the wife of Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul, has had a strong public reaction following her husband's arrest by Turkish authorities, asking for support from the people and promising to continue to fight by any means against Erdogan's regime.

She describes how when Ekrem Imamoglu was arrested on the morning of March 19, many Turks felt a deep anger and a powerful sense of injustice. It was a feeling shared by many others in Turkey, who felt trapped by an authoritarian regime that has prevailed for more than two decades.

Dilek explains that she had a feeling that something bad was going to happen for days. Ekrem had successfully challenged the system of Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP), declaring Istanbul free from AKP influence since 2019. However, the attacks on him have become more severe over time, and his arrest followed shortly after his candidacy for the presidential election.

Dilek stresses that the accusations against Ekrem are baseless and deliberate. A university degree he earned 31 years ago was suddenly declared invalid, a move intended to hinder his presidential candidacy. Ekrem's arrest and suspension from office are, she says, an attempt to intimidate not only her husband but the entire people of Turkey. But she notes that this act has given her hope and helped strengthen the commitment of citizens to fight for democracy and their rights.

Dilek also speaks of the sense of strength she has received from the women of Turkey, emphasizing that they are the ones who hold onto hope and will continue to fight for a more just and democratic future. She believes that, despite obstacles and threats, the Turkish people will remain steadfast in their desire for a better future, and will triumph against the current regime.
