FBI report warns of attacks on US institutions by Iranian government

An FBI report has warned of an increased threat from the Iranian government to American individuals and institutions.
The report released last month shows that the main targets are soldiers, government officials, public buildings, Jewish and Israeli institutions, as well as Iranian dissidents in the United States.
According to the report, Tehran has attempted in recent years to kidnap and attack American citizens, using methods such as firearms, knives, bomb explosions, poisonings and cyberattacks.
The Iranian government monitors social media and mapping apps to select targets and assess security measures.
The FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center have not identified a direct threat to the general public, but the report urges law enforcement agencies to remain alert and report any concerning information to federal authorities.
The report highlights that conflict and tensions could encourage violent extremists who oppose the US or Israel to take dangerous actions.
This warning comes as President Donald Trump had publicly downplayed the possibility of an Iranian attack on American soil, saying on March 11 that he was not concerned about potential threats.
