From Elon Musk to Tim Cook and.../ Trump in Beijing accompanied by the biggest

Several big business leaders have stepped off the plane with President Donald Trump in Beijing, including the CEOs of Nvidia, Apple, Tesla and Boeing.

But overall, the amount of trade between the two countries has declined in recent years due to a deepening trade war and the tariffs and other trade restrictions it has brought.

Last year, bilateral trade reached $414.7 billion, which is far below the $690.4 billion that peaked in 2022.

One of the big problems that President Trump has is the unbalanced nature of that trade, with America buying over $200 billion more goods from China last year than it sold to it.

One way to address this is to sell more American goods to China, which will be known domestically for the jobs and opportunities it will create.

Some of the most likely beneficiaries could be American soybean and beef farmers, as well as aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

Its chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, recently told investors that he was “very confident” of a deal that would mean “a large number” of new planes being ordered as a result of this summit.

However, when China and the US reached a trade deal during President Trump's first term, Beijing reneged on everything it said it would do. It remains to be seen whether history will repeat itself.
