The English Royal Court of Justice is considering a request from an Albanian with a British passport and four British citizens to appeal the decision of August 27, 2024, which accepted Albania's request for their extradition.

Since 11:30 this Thursday, the lawyers of Edmond Haxhië, Thomas Mithan, Harry Simpson, Harriet Bridgeman and Steven Hunt have been waging a legal battle to convince the judge to grant permission to appeal the extradition decision. They are accused by the Lezha prosecution of being involved in the murder of businessman Ardian Nikulaj.

The defense lawyers in their submissions are using the European Convention on Human Rights as a card in their favor. Judge Mr. Justice Swift has so far been unconvinced by what the defense of the five wanted Albanian justices is bringing.

It is not yet clear whether Mr Justice Swift will be able to make a decision during today's hearing. Albanian justice is seeking British Albanian Edmond Haxhia as the man who arrived in February 2023 under the pretext of engagement but in fact put into action the plan to murder Ardian Nikulaj.

As for Thomas Mithan, Steven Hunt, Harry Simpson and Harriet Bridgeman, the Lezha Prosecution says there is irrefutable film and scientific evidence that they were involved in the surveillance of the victim.

Their information about Ardian Nikulaj's movements in the Coral restaurant premises was crucial in carrying out his macabre execution with 6 bullets fired from Ruben Saraiva's TT-type weapon, recruited in England to carry out the murder.

Immediately after the crime, Saraiva was filmed on the evening of April 19 leaving the Kapshtica border crossing towards Greece. From the neighboring country, he fled to Morocco, where he was arrested and extradited to Albania on December 31, 2023.

Edmond Haxhia, along with Thomas MITHAN, Steven HUNT, Harry SIMPSON and Harriet BRIDGEMAN, were to be arrested in England in May 2023 following international arrest warrants issued by the Lezha court. Meanwhile, the murderer Ruben Saraiva was captured and extradited from Morocco to Albania in December 2023 and is facing trial in the Lezha court./ TCH
