Colombia/ Airstrikes on Clan del Golfo cartel, 3 killed and 1 arrested

At least three people have been killed and another arrested during a military operation by Colombian forces against the country's largest drug cartel, Clan del Golfo. The airstrikes took place on Thursday in an inaccessible mountainous area of Antioquia, in northwestern Colombia.
Official Luis Eduardo Martinez confirmed to Blu Radio that the four suspects are members of the cartel. According to him, "the bombings caused a lot of chaos," and it is believed that there may be other victims within the ranks of the criminal group.
This was the fourth such operation since the beginning of the year and, according to Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez, around 30-40 members of Clan del Golfo have been eliminated through these airstrikes.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who was elected in 2022 on the promise of a “complete peace” through negotiations with armed groups, appears to be changing his tune. With the failure of talks and increasing pressure from the United States – especially after Donald Trump’s return to the White House – the government has resumed its military offensive.
In recent months, relations between the two countries have been strained over issues such as migrant deportations, tariffs and an alleged plot to overthrow Petros, allegedly involving US Republican politicians.
