Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke about the recent action taken against several Call Centers in Tirana that were defrauding foreign citizens, stating that the investigation was initiated by Austrian authorities, who raised the alarm after a series of complaints from citizens in Austria.
On the Studio24 show on News24 television, Lala said that after about two years of investigations, it was concluded that the intervention was necessary and prior authorization was sought from the competent court.
Lala emphasized that Call Centers cannot function without strong ties with the State Police, while adding that the activity of these Call Centers has had a wide reach in countries such as Canada, Italy, the USA, Spain, France and Germany.
She further said that "Albania has turned into a huge barn of Call Centers. The estimated monthly profit reached up to 30 million euros . "
"The investigation was launched by the Austrian authorities. The Austrian authorities raised the alarm after a series of concerns raised by citizens there. After two years of investigation, the conclusion was reached that the authorities should intervene and before the intervention could take place, an authorization had to be obtained from the court."
The Tirana Court has approved the prosecution's request for 9 security measures. 7 of which were prison sentences. Two others were mandatory reporting and a ban on leaving the country, due to the fact that one turned out to be a financier and a woman turned out to be pregnant.
