Macron and Lukashenko call after years of "silence"

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and French President Emmanuel Macron have held a phone call for the first time in several years, in a development that has attracted widespread attention in European diplomacy.
According to the authorities in Minsk, the call was allegedly initiated by the French side, although Paris has not yet provided official confirmation of this claim. Statements from Lukashenko's press group say that the conversation focused on regional issues, as well as relations between Belarus, the European Union and France.
Lukashenko, who has been diplomatically isolated from much of the West for years following the 2020 developments in Belarus, has maintained limited contact with European leaders. Macron, on the other hand, had avoided direct contact with Minsk for a long period.
The resumption of communication comes at a time of high tensions in the region, with Ukraine expressing concerns that Belarus could become more directly involved in the conflict with Russia. Vladimir Putin
Analysts see this call as either a possible attempt to reopen long-blocked diplomatic channels, or as a strategic move to test Minsk's role in relations between Moscow and the West.
