The situation in front of the Municipality of Saranda is tense, taxi drivers protest against illegal competition and lack of parking spaces

The premises in front of the Saranda Municipality were engulfed in tensions and clashes today, after a group of city taxi drivers held a protest to request a meeting with the mayor regarding concerns affecting their activity.
Taxi drivers have presented themselves to the institution with an official request-complaint, through which they claim that vehicles from other cities, specifically from Tirana, Delvina, Finiqi and Konispoli, are operating taxis in Saranda illegally and without the necessary controls by local institutions.
According to the protesters, another major problem remains the lack of designated parking spaces for the city's licensed taxis, while they have also raised direct accusations about other vehicles operating completely without the relevant documentation.
The situation became particularly tense when taxi drivers sought to enter the municipality to meet with the mayor, but were not allowed to enter the institution. This decision led to heated debates and verbal clashes between protesters, security personnel, and municipal police who were present at the scene.
After these tense moments, the situation has found an institutional solution, where a taxi drivers' representation was hosted in a meeting by the Mayor of Saranda, Oltion Çaçi.
