Fatos Mehdi Daci, one of the most important personalities of Dibrani and Albanian culture, history and journalism, has passed away. The bitter news was announced by the family, which announced that the tributes will take place on December 8, 2025, at the Palace of Culture in Peshkopi, from 09:00 to 11:00, while the funeral will be held in his birthplace, in the Dacallarë neighborhood of Sllova, Dibër, at 13:00.

The funeral reception before the burial will be held in Tirana, on December 7, 2025, at the “Ija” Funeral Home, on “Kujtim Laro” Street, from 2:00 PM onwards. There will also be a reception on December 9, 2025, from 8:00 AM. The family has also made a vehicle available to enable the trip to Peshkopia.

Born in Dacallare, Slovenia, Fatos Daci dedicated his life to knowledge, writing, and historical documentation of Albanian lands, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy.

He was a permanent member of the American-Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts, a member of the Albanian Writers' League, and president of several cultural and patriotic associations.

In a career spanning over five decades, he published more than 60 historical-encyclopedic works with over 15 thousand pages, documenting figures, events, traditions and historical evidence of Dibra and all of Albania.

His works are accompanied by thousands of rare photographs, portraits and documents, which today constitute a rare national treasure.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our Father, Fatos Mehdi Daci, Grand Master, journalist, historian, writer, one of the most prominent figures in Dibra and nationwide culture, history and journalism. Born in Dacallara, Slovo, Dibra, he dedicated his entire life to knowledge, writing and the preservation of Albanian identity values.

Tributes will be held at the Palace of Culture, Peshkopi from 9:00-11:00, on 8.12.2025 and the burial in his hometown, at 13:00 in the Sllovë Administrative Unit, Dacallarë Neighborhood, Dibër. The reception before the burial will be held at the “Ija” Funeral Home, “Kujtim Laro” Street, above Hospital 5, at Oxhaku, Tirana, from 14:00 onwards, on 7.12.2025. A vehicle will be available for the trip to Peshkopi.
Fatos Daci was, Permanent Member of the American-Albanian Academy of Sciences and Arts, member of the Albanian Writers' League and president of several cultural and patriotic associations, Fatos Daci remains one of the most productive personalities of Albanian letters. In over five decades of creativity, he published more than 60 historical-encyclopedic works, with over 15,000 pages, documenting the life, history, traditions and figures of Dibra and the whole of Albania. He published thousands of portraits, thousands of names and historical testimonies and illustrated his works with thousands of rare photographs, leaving an irreplaceable legacy.

As a journalist and publicist, he directed and founded several newspapers, including “Dibra”, where he served as editor-in-chief and publisher for decades. He has published hundreds of articles, reports and studies, and has produced 23 television documentaries. Fatos Daci was the organizer of dozens of commemorative and cultural events in Tirana, Dibër, Bulqizë and beyond, constantly promoting the history and values ​​of Dibër in particular.

For his extraordinary contribution, he was honored with numerous titles, including "Grand Master", and was also declared "Honorary Citizen" several times by the Municipality of Peshkopi, the Municipality of Greater Dibër, Macedonia, and several municipalities of Dibër.

Fatos Daci leaves life, but not from our memory. He leaves behind an immense spiritual and documentary wealth that will serve generations forever.
