Those who thought that Suella Braverman's departure would put an end to the harsh rhetoric against immigrants from Albania, today feel disappointed.

Her successor at the Ministry of Interior, Labor's Shabana Mahmood, just a few months after taking office, has presented the most extensive plan to restructure the asylum system in the last 40 years, and at its center are precisely about 700 Albanian families whose asylum requests have been rejected.

" For example, there are around 700 Albanian families whose asylum applications have been rejected, however, their removal is not currently being implemented by the Ministry of Interior, despite Albania having a gold standard of cooperation with the United Kingdom on returns and being a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights. We will launch a consultation on the process of implementing the removal of families, including children ," declared Shabana Mahmood a day ago in parliament, as she showed the drastic changes to the immigration law.

The measures have caused concern even within the Labour Party itself, which admits that deporting children and families is considered " painful and politically sensitive ".
